Hassocks Ladies idea of fun is certainly not a 190 mile round trip to Dover to play on a raised pitch bearing the full brunt of the icy wind off the channel so it was unsuprising that they did little more than was necessary to record a 4-2 win. Hassocks finances do not run to the luxury of a coach so many of the players had to drive themselves. With only two minutes gone Dover took a surprise lead but virtually from the restart Hassocks equalised after a superb defence splitting pass from Alex Southgate set Katie Harding free who avoided the brave attempt of the keeper diving at her feet to slot home from an acute angle. Sadly the only reward for the goalie was a trip to the hospital to check for concussion. Hassocks extended their lead when a misplaced goal kick fell to Harding's feet and having broken clear of the defensive line there was only ever going to be one winner in that situation. A misjudged backpass allowed Dover in to equalise but Hassocks just stepped up a gear passed their way through midfield, fed the ball out to the wing and Colette Barry produced a stunning left foot shot from wide on the edge of the box for Hassocks to reclaim the lead. After the break there was no real reason for Hassocks to push themselves. Alison Dudley who last week scored her first goal for over a year again produced a tremendous leap and was unlucky to see her header hit the crossbar. After Harding pounced on another error to record her hat trick Hassocks just shut up shop and played out the remaining time with all the players anxious to remain fit and injury free for Sunday's quarter final cup tie against Haywards Heath at the Beacon (1.30).
