Hassocks Ladies were back in action on Sunday and produced their biggest ever winning margin since moving into the Premier Division with a dazzling second half display that sent visitors Dover home after a 7-0 drubbing. In truth Hassocks were poor in the first half but went into the break 2-0 up after Katie Harding had opened the scoring inside 2 minutes and then later on added another with a glorious chip after winning the race against the onrushing keeper. Whatever was said in the dressing room at half time by manager Tom Reynolds certainly worked as it was like a different team that took to the field. There was a new confidence as they gave a masterclass in passing and movement, Alex Southgate came into the game with her deft touches and clever flicks whilst the back line looked rock solid as they collected anything that broke free and calmly started yet another move. Dover were shell shocked as Harding took her tally for the game to 5 and Colette Barry weighed in with 2 goals from the left wing but whilst those two took the glory, spectators could only admire the build up play from the entire team as Hassocks sliced their opponents apart. This performance was remarkable by any standards as Hassocks have 6 new players in the team this season and it is just reward for the hard work on the training ground but they now need to provide consistency and prove they can perform at that level for a full 90 minutes starting with the visit to the Beacon on Sunday of Bexhill United, 2pm. ko. |
