Hassocks Ladies FC 2 -
Whitstable Town Ladies Ladies FC 0

11 November 2007

Hassocks Ladies added a new dimension to their game on Sunday when Bexhill visited the Beacon. They have now learned to be patient and to grind out a result in what was an ugly match against a team who last season were playing in the higher London and South East Regional League. Once again Hassocks performance in the first half left a lot to be desired yet somehow they went into the break 1-0 up. The back four of Sonya Nye, Amy Hooper, Roanna Simmons and Sam Newman were immense and apart from Emma Young were really the only four who played with any credit in the first 45 minutes. They were once more soaking up the pressure when a mistake by a Bexhill forward allowed Newman to move the ball out of defence and 3 passes later the ball was in the back of the net through Katie Harding who has now scored 11 in 7 games. In what was a repeat of his half time talk the previous week manager Tom Reynolds rallied his side which was down to the bare 11 for this match with two of those not fully fit and the team responded to give a fine second half performance. Having realised that they could not outmuscle Hassocks, Bexhill resorted to other tactics but Hassocks showed great composure in not reacting or retaliating. The second goal came after another fine flowing move and Colette Barry on the left wing had run from the half way line screaming for the ball and when it came her way she looped it over the keepers head under pressure to take her tally to 3 goals in 2 games. That was the end of the match as a contest as Bexhill were more intent on arguing amongst themselves than put any pressure on the Hassocks goal but player of the match Young who led by example made sure everyone remained alert and saw the match out for a very well earned 3 points. Next week Hassocks visit Gillingham based Anchorians
