Hassocks Ladies 2
16 December 2007
Hassocks Ladies put in possibly their poorest performance of the season on a bitterly cold day at Eastbourne Borough, Apart from Roanna Simmons and Emma Young all the other outfield players starting the game seemed to be suffering with seasonal malaise as they were penned into their own half for the first 25 minutes during which time they were lucky only to have conceded one goal. In their first break forward Hassocks forced a fine double save from the Boro keeper but she could do nothing about the towering header from Katie Harding from the resultant corner. The second half saw things go from bad to worse as Hassocks consistently left stand in keeper Charlotte Deeley exposed and helpless allowing Boro to score 4 more which was no reflection on Deeley who is showing real promise every time she is called on to stand in for the regular keeper. It was only in the last 10 minutes that Hassocks showed what they should have been doing throughout the game as they forced two goaline clearances and substitute Liz King scored her first goal for the club with a sensational run and shot, The final scoreline flattered Boro but there is no doubt Hassocks did not deserve anything from this game and they now have a three week break before their next game away at Maidstone during which time the players can reflect on where they went wrong and to commit to putting it right
